2 Months and 1 Day old and now ....

So after a hell drive to Sea World today on the Gold Coast.. came back to the Caravelle, go to drive off and notice this long crack in the windscreen, from the top which then works its way down and along from the interior mirror virtually in the middle of the screen. 2 months and 1 day after delivery... got me stuffed and I certainly have not been near vehicles where stones etc have been thrown up. No stone chips or marks... just one clean crack.

Its all a little strange... any one had anything similar where by the windscreen has just cracked for no apparent reason. Don't expect that is a warranty or manufacturing defect?

What's ballpark for a new windscreen for an MY11 worth?

First check your insurance, regardless it should cost you no more than the access.

Most insurance companies give you one free windscreen replacement per year and you can pay extra for the other windows in the vehicle. A mate works for Windscreens Obrien and trust me you don't want to have to fork out for the glass on your own...

Same thing happened to me, no explanation, no marks of the screen being hit, VW didn't warrant it because they said that the screen had been stressed to crack which wouldn't happen on it's own...

got a new screen fitted under insurance and so far so good!

Costs roughly $650 for a new windscreen.

Found the cause... very super small stone chip about an inch from the top of the screen in the middle. Got pricing on Saturday.. $420 for the screen plus around $100 for fitting. Takes around a week for it to come in.

Do you have the rain sensing wipers? (They are optional on the Caravelle right?) and does that price cover a screen with the sensor?

Is this for a genuine screen?

Its a genuine screen.... no rain sensors on caravalle.

Question? - good result, not nearly as expensive as I thought it would be.


The Hawk - I thought the rain sensor is on the back of the rear vision mirror - part of the mirror mount?

I am sure you could re-use the existing sensor if your car was so equipped. You'd need a new mounting ring to bond to the windscreen though...
