Uncomfortable RS Seat

Hi guys, I've just bought an Octavia RS II Wagon as a demo. Brilliant car, love the DSG, handling, huge boot etc. What I didn't pick up in an admittedly short test drive is that after half an hour or so I find the thigh support incredibly uncomfortable. I can't work this out as I've got reasonably tight fitting seats in other cars which are fine and I'm pretty skinny. Dealer reckons he hasn't heard anyone else complaining of this. I took a drive in a superb which is minus the fun factor but a lot more comfortable. I don't particularly want to trade on and lose money but not sure if I can live with it.

Anyone else have similar issues and/or easy fixes?

Adjusted the lumbar support etc? What part of the seat are you finding uncomfortable? They are a firm seat, but very supportive. IIRC the skoda effectively was the same seat as the golf R - but i'm sure if you really found it bad, you could swap a seat out from another model VAG car without too much fuss (as long as the seat had a side airbag)

Thanks, yep I've tried every adjustment I can find. It's just the side bolsters on the seat base seem to cut in uncomfortably. Ironically the seat back and side supports are probably the best I've encountered... I'll have a look at other VAG seats, good suggestion.

Check golf gti seats. Slightly different shape to the rs seats.

I have the car and the same issue... side bolsters on the base seem to be too narrow and cut into the sides of my legs...

I had a MKV GTI before this car and the seats were perfect, but this car is too tight.

Swapping a seats sounds like not a bad idea, but then surely it would be a different look/fit/colour/leather etc... I have black leather...

I have friends that are upholsterers and I have wondered about maybe un-stitching the bolsters and somehow re-shape the seat, but yet to try it.

Will be very interested to see what you try and if it works coz it is one of very few complaints that I have...

Getting the seats re-shaped by an upholsterer will also net the results you want. Just make sure they disconnect the battery/airbags before modifying the seat!

We went from a Commodore to the Octavia RS and the thing we really love were the firm seats. I'll admit we were worried during the test drives, as they were so different. But I did quite a few 6 hour trips in the Octavia and never had that problem - after a long trip in the Commodore, I would always heave myself out of the seat with aches and pains.

Two weeks ago, we hired a brand new Superb (19kms on it) for a week's driving holiday around Italy. When I got home, my back was aching.

Maybe you'll "break" them in eventually? I wasn't sure on the seats in the Fabia at first, for that same reason of the side bolsters feeling tight, but they have stretched (or I've got skinnier, despite all evidence) in the last 12 months.

Good to hear I'm not alone! Was beginning to feel like a freak. I don't especially want to modify the seat massively by unstitching and remoulding. I have spoken to a local car interior specialist in Brookvale and he was of the opinion that once you started doing that it can involve buying more leather, and you can't just buy a bit of leather, you've got to buy a standard (large) size which gets expensive. I was perhaps thinking a custom insert on the base might work, then you could remove it and return to original.

Hope so, it does feel like there's quite a hard section in those bolsters though.
