Plastic Lip Under Lower Front Bumper

Hey all,

I've noticed that I keep scraping the front plastic bit that hangs down under the car below the front bumper on things, to the point it had un-clipped itself last night (bloody unpaved bumpy carpark) after it got cosy against the ground. I cleaned it up and re-clipped it in and it is not broken, but it begs the questions:

a) can it be easily replaced?
b) what's the part number?
c) how much is it?

I had the same problem with mine as well. With my previous car, I always used to back into our driveway and drive forward out of it. The Polo is much lower than my previous car so if I back in/drive out, there's an awful scraping of the black rubber thingo. The only way to prevent it is to now drive into the driveway and reverse out of it, which I hate doing.

My big mistake was doing a 3 point turn using my neighbours driveway and the black thingo came off on the driver's side. I coudn't get it back on....I called VW South Yarra (where I got my car) and they told me to bring it in. They bolted it back on straight away at no cost. The service guy told me the actual part is about $60.

The part appears to be clipped and riveted. At the outer edges on both sides there's a pop rivet, and in the middle of the piece there's two plastic clips.

Any polo owners feel like going for a wander out to their car at lunch and getting down on all fours in front of it for research purposes? :cool:

It was that stupid rivet bit that prevented me from gettting it back in place. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get it back through the hole! I had no problems getting the hook like rubber bits back into the rectagular shaped hole.

If it comes off again and you find that you can't get it back on, just take it back to your dealership - it takes a couple of minutes for them to get it back on and they shouldn't charge you for it for a couple of minutes of work.

No pop rivets on mine, just Torx screws and plastic alignment tags....

The complete parts list (in case anyone somehow rips it off and it damages more than just the spoiler itself:

spoiler - 6R0 805 903 C
retainer for spoiler - 6R0 805 915 C
rivets - N90346302

Best way to stop bumping it is to make sure you enter & exit driveways at an angle. Do this on extreme speed humps too
Watch out for those those bollards in car parks too

Tried this tactic but doesn't work. The angle of the driveway/footpath is just too high. As soon as my tyres hit the gutter the black lip scrapes the road. I'm just glad that we have a very low fence so I have great visibility when backing out

Now that it is back in, do what I did and put in about an extra 10 pop rivets.
If the front scrapes too much for your liking then don't fit mudflaps. The standard ones are about 1-2 cm too long and scrape on every journey if you hit a bump bigger than a mintie wrapper or go over any driveway. By now they should have worn down but the quality is too good for that.:banana:
