mileage

Hi all

I'm thinking of buying a seat ibiza at the moment. I had a drive
of one last year and they seem great.
I know one can't say for sure, but would 300,000km be the average
life of its engine? I saw one with 200,000 on it, but I do
about 2000km a month with a lot of that on teh highway so..
I need to know.
I also asked on another thread
if anyone knows mechanics in Vic or Central Vic who like to work
on these cars?/

It largely depends on how it has been driven and how it has been maintained. Our 2.0 Vento has travelled well over 400,000k's and still runs fine. In fact my 17 year old son has been driving it for the last 9 months as his first car. We did a 1,200k trip at Christmas without a problem. It has a similar engine to the 2.0 in the Ibiza GTi. I don't know how well the 1.4 would cope though.

We bought the Vento with 96,000k's on it and it has always done a mix of short commutes and fairly long highway runs. We don't live in the city though. I imagine a lot of city driving would mean that the engine has done a higher number of revoulutions per kilometre on average.

Depends if it is a 1.4 or a 2.0 litre. I have an ibiza GTi (2.0L) and it has 252000 KMs on it and still going fine just keep servicing! I absolutely thrash my GTi and i still get great mileage city driving in usually the gear below im meant to be in lol.Buy a GTi if you want an Ibiza but otherwise your best bet for highway driving is the cordoba or toledo or cupra. Cordobas are easiest to find and they have a 16V engine with better ratios for highway driving and are alot of fun!

Leo, they sold about 10 Cordobas with the 16v engine.
I have seen one ever.

Most Cordobas have the 1.8L with singlepoint injection.

The Ibiza GTI is the best allrounder, the 1.4 is the best if you want a car on a $500 budget.

I wouldnt be scared of ks on a 2L, I have ones on my books that have done 350,000 and are still going strong.
The Ibiza GTI has the same 2L as the Passat and the Golf and is pulling a lot less weight.
