OBD2 Knowledge - Scan tools not working.
Hi fellas,
I did post a little thread under the ECU section and unsure if this is a better place for answers or what but here it is.
I have bought 2 different types of ELM327 OBD2 readers, the first being a bluetooth one and the other which is brand new being a WiFi one.
I have the same issue on both where it fails to find a protocol for the ECU.
I have looked at some potential issues that I have found on the internet and none of them have helped me so far. I also have a genuine radio which apparently aftermarket ones can affect the K-Line something whatever. I have checked all my fuses which appear to be fine but one thing I have found very odd is that pin 16 on the OBD port does not have any voltage on it when the ignition is on. Now I would generally say this is my problem but everywhere i have read where people have had this issue there OBD device didn't even power up, where's mine does. Pin 16 is apparently a 12v power supply which I am not getting when i checked with a multimeter but if this is the case then how is my OBD device powering up?
It is very confusing but I have tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, pulling the fuse to the radio, fuse to the ABS, fuse to the ciggy lighter tested in between all of these and still nothing. Do these ECU's perhaps brick themselves into a state where you can not read from them?
Also if it is that pin 16 not supplying any power is it as simple as finding a 12v power source that does work and feeding the pin 16 that way?
Any help would be appreciated fellas this is very frustrating!
