Using water - problem??
hey all quick question I have a 2011 mk6 GTI done about 44,000km and have notice is uses a small amount of water over the week - I fill up the overflow bottle to full- it drops by bout .5-1cm over the week. No water in oil and no water on the floor of the garage at home. New water pump???
Then I also notice a small amount of oil round the aluminium pipe that exits the CAI that comes out of the turbo- just a smear on the tray there. Hope that makes sense.
Should i I be worried and take it to the mechanics??
thanks all:

Hi Dave,
I personally would take it to a small workshop whom specialise in German/VW cars, chances are they will charge you a minimum of 1 hour diagnostics, they will let you know what it is and also provide a quote for replacementand and a coolant bleed.
A coolant level that drops indicates to a leak 90% of the time. The problem with refilling the bottle with water is the ratio of G12 to water. Having more water than G12 means less to none; Anti rust properties, antiboil, antifreeze and generally less cooling performance.
Hope you get it sorted,

There definitely seems to be a leak in the coolant. My GTI drops 1-2cm after a year (or 15,000km). You should first check to see if there is any dried coolant (e.g. white residue) where the different elements of the cooling system connect together to see if there is an obvious problem.

It's probably the water pump under the intake manifold.
It's unlikely there will be any water on the ground as it seems to evaporate.
Get the car up on the hoist & take the undertray off and have a look (before using the pressure tester).
I had a leak in mine & the pressure tester forced "something" back into place and it stopped leaking for 6 months until I took the lid off the overflow - then it spewed out.
