Alright, this is what I think of when writing this, but it actually happened yesterday.
I went into a store yesterday, closed the door and locked it with the dongle, leaving my girlfriend inside on a mild queensland afternoon.
She couldn't get out. Not with the door levers or windows or the lock/unlock buttons. I didn't believe her, so I got her to lock me in. Sure enough, I couldn't get out.
Am I missing something? Has anyone else experienced this? Seems like a huge safety hazard.
It is the deadlock feature. It is great for locking people in. You can leave the window down and still no one can reach in and open the door.
If you have someone inside then press the lock button a second time and you will be able to unlock from inside.
I believe you can change the behaviour via dash settings on some new models, or via VCDS.
I assume you have not played much with the keys, have you tried holding the unlock button for 5 seconds ?
That is a real trip the first time.
Press the button twice to NOT deadlock it. Its in the book. RTM page 40 :)
There have been multiple cases in Australia and around the world from people being locked in there car, ranging from RF interference preventing the car from recognizing the key to faulty modules. its something that I think is going to become more of a problem with cars as they start to get older and not work 100%.
Does it have interior monitoring enabled? If so, the alarm should've gone off due to someone being in the car, like it would if someone reached in through open window to pinch something.
The question I have is why would you lock someone in the car with the remote in the first place? There's the lock/unlock button in the drivers door for this. If the occupant locks it that way, they can still double-pull the inner handle to get out.

It does warn you (although people usually ask about what :P). As JustCruisn said, some cars you can change on the MFD, others need VCDS. What model Polo do you have?Quote:
