DIY Oil and Oil Filter Service - VW Polo 66TDI

So a few weeks ago I did an oil change service on the Polo, and thought I’d throw together a video showing how I did it. I finally got around to editing and uploading it last night, and am sharing it with you here in case it is of any use to anyone. The video is not ridiculously in-depth, in that I don’t stand in front of the camera for hours telling you what to do — I just point the camera in the right places and show you every step in the service — and the video runs for under 10 minutes.
The whole job takes about 30 minutes, with the most annoying part being removing and re-installing the lower engine cover. Everything else is really very simple and easy to do.

-Febi Bilstein Oil Drain Plug with Seal $5.12

-Liqui-Moly Mos2 Additive (Optional) $17.69
-Shell Helix Ultra ECT 5W-30 (VW 504.00/507.00) $78.88

No problem, I'm really glad you liked it!
I've used the Mos2 for two oil changes so far in the Polo and, while it could well be placebo, I believe it has reduced engine noise (especially on cold startup) and generally has smoothed/quietened things down overall. Before using it I did extensive research (as I really don't like using things without understanding how they work) and I found that many people have solid proof that it works. The Bob Is The Oil Guy forums were a big help, and I think there are a few threads around VWWatercooled about Mos2 as well.
A big reason why I use it in the Polo is because the car is my sister's daily driver, and she likes to treat cars as appliances - eg. jump in, start it right up and get going (fast) with absolutely zero warmup time, even in mid-winter (trust me, it makes me cringe too).
The claims that Mos2 helps on cold startups by lubricating everything even without oil pressure I hope is going to help with engine longevity considering the driving style of my sister and again, from what I've read, there is evidence that Liqui-Moly's claims are indeed true.

It's not that expensive either, so I thought I may as well give it a go. I like it!

Great guide. Would be perfect to quote a recommended factory torque setting on the oil filter housing, for those that want to use a torque wrench. It looks like the plastic housing which may crack if over torqued.

On a different note, I had a look at the Shell ECT and it no longer states 504/507 on the bottle. I gather it still meets this, but weird why they would take it off the bottle. It used to say it on the Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w-30.

Thanks for the feedback. The max torque is written on the housing itself (right where you put the socket) so I thought that didn't need reiterating in my video. Nonetheless the value is 25Nm off the top of my head - but as long as you don't overdo it by hand you'll be fine.

Shell has the Helix HX8 ECT 5W-30 (in a blue bottle) which is NOT VW 504.00/507.00 approved. The one which is approved is the Helix Ultra (in a silver bottle). I do have a feeling that Shell is replacing the 5W-30 Ultra ECT with their new 0W-30 Ultra C2/C3 (VW 504.00/507.00 approved) as its getting difficult to find any stock of the 5W-30.
