1979 VW Golf Diesel Injection Pump

Hello,

My problem relates to a leaking brass fitting on the fuel injection pump, right next to where the return fitting/banjo is for the fuel. The Brass or zinc plated fitting looks to have a small allen key grub screw in it, possibly a mixing screw. I can not access it unless I take the back plate for the timing cover off or the fuel injection pump off! My question is whats the best way to get to it? What is it? Its leaking diesel! I will post a pic when I am aloud to!

I don't know much about diesels but it has a lot of info on MK1 Golf pumps.

Not quite what I was after but thank you, I have figured out that the part that is leaking is called the governor shaft. So i have a leaking governor shaft.

What I learned from doing the pump on the MK1, is that once you start, it won't stop, leak after leak appears. If you take it to a good diesel injection place it's going to cost you about $1500 to have it stripped, fixed and re-calibrated as they don't just replace one thing, they reco the whole unit.

There is a an o ring on the governor shaft, I replaced ours, perhaps that might be all you need. They're an off the shelf unit at any Bosche pump service centre.
