I've found the compliance plate in the spare wheel well, which shows my car got its (presumably) Australian compliance plate dated Oct 2003, and there's a separate little metal tag next to it that says Built Date oct/03.
Obviously it takes a month or two to come out on the boat. Where do I find when and where my car was really built, please? I think all mk4 cars for the Aussie market were built in Germany, but I want to be sure.
If you google" VW factories" you will get a list and one of the numbers on the compliance plate will be the same as one of the ones in the list
EG Passaats are built in Emden

Is it a U, or a W?
U is South Africa. W is Wolfsberg, Germany.

But the wagons we get come only from the Emden plant. I suspect this is a RHD thing.
