Anything is possible, but whether it is practical, a good idea or even illegal I can't say.
Changing complete exhausts like that may affect both...

Mk7 & Mk7.5 wagons have the same wheelbase as the hatches, but the Mk8 wagon has a longer wheelbase than the Mk8 hatch.

Could also be from whatever gooey products (eg moisturiser) your Missus puts on her hands just before driving her car. Mine always puts some stuff...
