    2013 Passat Alltrack - advice??

Picked up a 2013 Passat Alltrack recently to replace my worn out but beloved 2010 Holden Commodore. I love the low profile of station wagons and the extra space per weight ratio in comparison to SUVs. A German engineer mate also recommended the Alltrack having bought one of the same vintage.

It's pretty amazing in terms of new tech compared to the old Holden but what I really appreciate is: better fuel consumption, higher ride and 4 wheel drive handling for extensive country driving I do, push-button tailgate and large cargo volume. As for the rest, I'm still working my way through the not-always-clear manual and having a little chuckle at stuff like the bizarre cruise control settings (push wand up to increase speed by 10kmh increments and push down for 1kmh).

I bought the car from Pickles and although it's almost 10 years old, it only had 83,000 km on odometer and seems to be in terrific condition, judging from service book and my mechanic's inspection.

But I have heard the DSG transmission can cause problems around 110,000 kms. Can anyone confirm this? Is this anything I can do to avoid this?

Are there other long term issues I should be aware of?

    Thanks

Is it petrol or diesel as the diesel has the 6spd wet box which is better than the dry one in the petrols.

Best way to avoid it is dont let it creep with foot lightly on the brake in traffic as that slips the clutches and if its shuddering as you take off your pocket will as well eventually

It's diesel. So re your comment about creeping with foot on brake in traffic, I may already have done that to avoid the auto engine cut-out. No more.

I have no idea what wet box is but I read that diesel 6 speed model has two clutches, one for even and one for odd gears. Can/should transmission be serviced? What's a new transmission worth I wonder?

A Wet box is like a motor bike has clutches in oil (afaik) a dry box is like any car clutch , floats in mid air
They all have two clutches as one does 1 3 5 7 and other does 2 4 6.
Its in the service manual when each part gets serviced
I used to hold mine on the brake hard enough to hold the car still but not hard enough to make engine stop was ok for 47,000km Last questions answer is between $4k and about $8k depending on the car. Clutches are up to $5k
