Smile History in the making - MK1 Golf Diesel

    Hi Guys,

I'm currently a 3rd yr mechanical engineering student and have been a massive fan of the 3 door Diesel MK1's for awhile.
I thoroughly enjoy anything to do with cars or motorbikes. Especially if they are vintage or tell a story.

My uncle who was Polish and lived in Germany for many years during his life, was an A1 mechanic. Everything had a certain plan in his garage, a purpose if you like. Everything he touched, was soon turned into clockwork.

However, due to his old age, he passed away not long ago and probably the main reason why I have grown an interest in MK1 Diesels, is because he owned one. Some of my best memories with him, were spent driving along side with him in his MK1 Diesel. Each time he would turn the key, all you could hear was the sweet sound of the old GLD ticking away. Anyone who appreciates their diesel will know what I'm talking about.

I currently live in Victoria, AUS down in the western suburbs and I hope to get a hold of a GLD very soon (I hope, fingers crossed ). Ideally, I'd love the idea of owning a clean GLD just like my uncle's so I can re-live the memories we shared together, and hearing that sweet sound again.

Would be greatly appreciated if someone could direct/recommend me to some members who also fancy MK1 Diesels

    Cheers guys.

    hey mate.

    welcome to the forum.

Good luck finding a tidy GLD, cause you'll need it . there are a few around, but tidy mk 1's are getting harder and harder to find.

    Welcome mate.

Purchase yourself a GLD (plenty of people want them) then find a rust free Mk1 2door and combine.

thanks hopefully within the next year or so.

I'll regret the day I stumbled upon a clean GLD when passing through Northcote, VIC. An elderly fella was basically giving it away. the price was a steal. only $2500 ONO. only minor rust in the usual places. however only 170,000 od Km's
