Hi all. Glad to be member of a forum that's loaded with so much info and friendly advice.
Speaking of info maybe someone can help me out with a problem. I'm about to buy a 2007 MY08 GTI DSG (32K klms) which has about 6 months left on the 3 year new car warranty. Can I the new owner purchase extended new car warranty before the 3 years expire or is it upon resale considered a used car which would limit me the fairly pointless used car warranty. I only mention this after reading here and elsewhere about the potential problem of Mechatronic unit in the DSG. Apart from buying a manual any ideas?

JD,
Thanks mate for the welcome and the link. Yes you're right. Buried in amongst a lot of chat is reply #76:-
"I read it as being to extend an existing warranty - independently of the owner or seller of the vehicle at the time.
Buy the car, then the insurance; as long as you have a car under warranty you can extend it. With mine, I waited until it was near the end of its warranty.
You buy the warranty from a dealer (e.g. Jaz @ Sthn Classic) and she'll take care of everything".
Maybe a call to Jaz to confirm is in order.

If you can't get hold of Jaz then call Jamil Syeed - Business Mgr at Denlo Parramatta. He is cheaper than Jaz by $100-200 - it is the VW extended same warranty (back by Allianz).
His mobile no. is: 0414 795 719. Just mention that you got his contact thru this forum. He'll know what you mean.
Triode,
Appreciate the info. I'll give him a call when closer to pulling the trigger on sale.
Sorry to make you dig through that Jaygee....I am guilty of not reading your first post fully and assumed you just wanted to know where/how to get the warranty...apologies again!
No worries JD. Worth the effort.
It would be worth seeing if the car has previously had DSG issues. Seems that it can be problematic in some vehicles and not something you could easily source much cheaper that the stealer's (dealers)
