    Tiguan turning circle

    Hi,

I've been looking at the Tiguan for a while now and am after an opinon on the turning circle. The specs show the tig's got a 12m turning circle which is worse than my wife's nissan maxima (11.4m) which is a bugger to park as it runs out of turn in pretty quickly.

I took a tiguan for a test drive (103TDI), but I didn't do a lot of turning around or any parking in a car park environment.

Can you let me know what the tig's like to park in normal shopping centre car park (I swear those spaces are getting smaller).

    Cheers
    Don

Obviously it is harder to park than a golf or similar but I've found it not too much of a hassle, just need to get your angle of attack correct By the way I TOTALLY agree about spaces getting smaller!!

About the only aspect of the Tiguan that is not class-leading is its turn circle, which is probably due to the fact that its 4WD. Short overhang front and rear means that its still easy to park. Parking in normal parking slots is easy as it really only fills 3/4 the length, the poor turn circle is really only noticable when U-turning

My wife has a Golf V and although next to the Tiguan the Golf is dwarfed, with PARK ASSIST (mainly the sensors front & rear) make parking easy. The Golf I can't see the rear end (no park sensors)). Even doing U turns in the Tig I have rarely needed to make a reverse move. The rear is so compact like said here and I agree, it takes up 3/4 of a car space. As for car parks the spaces aren't too bad but the moron architects/designers never allow enough room to get in and out when cars are flying around, so one can get too close to passing cars.

My advice is make sure you get parking sensors, but park assist is the best bargain option on the Tiguan IMO. Much cheaper than panel beating!!!!

I find the Tiguan very maneuverable. Nine times out of ten I reverse into shopping centre car parks. I find it is easier to get in accurately and straight and safer to get out. Overall, it takes no more time, probably less. I have not found the turning circle to be a problem from a parking perspective.

I would also recommend park assist. Parallel parking is a snap and from what we have read the new model with park assist will only require 1.1. metres longer than the car length to park. Very cool.

The only time I have thought a smaller turning circle would be handy would be when doing a u turn in a street that is less than 12.2 metres wide. (Not very often for me.)
