    LED foglights

I'm thinking of replacing my fog lights with LED ones...i'm wondering if it will throw an error code? If it does, will it go away after putting by my stock foglights? Will it affect anything or keep the code until the dealer resets it? any help is appreciated.

As suggested on myTiguan, my response is:

I'm certain it will unless they have exactly the same resistance (or you fit resistors to achieve this) as the original bulbs. As I understand it that's how (by measuring circuit resistance) the Tig "decides" if a bulb (or a circuit) is OK or not. To be honest I can't see any point in changing the fog light bulbs, they're specifically designed for a purpose !! fog !!

As far as "codes" go, I'm not certain if it will show up on the Tig's computer or not, but I'm sure those more technically minded will answer that for you.

    Cheers

I agree with Derek in so far as the likelihood of an error code being thrown - I think it will for the resistance reason Derek describes.

As for the resetting of the error code once you put the original bulb back in, logically speaking it should automatically reset itself as it would when the bulb legitimately blows and you replace it. Even if it doesn't do it first time you start the vehicle after replacing the bulb, it will after a few restarts because every time you start the electrics will perform tests. If you get an error, depending on the importance of the component that has failed, VW's systems will throw a fault light a certain number of times (even if it hasn't detected the problem again) until it is satisfied that the fault is no longer present.

I speak from experience here after my Tig went into limp mode a few months back when I had a (severe) gearbox problem. After successive restarts of the engine, the vehicle went from full limp mode (where it would not change gear or allow revs higher than a couple thousand rpm) to a warning mode (allowed me to drive normally, but all the fault lights on the dash were lit up) to evenentually totally reseting itself and allowing me to drive as if nothing was wrong. All of that without me doing anything other than stop and start the vehicle.

Of course, you could just get a VCDS cable and simply clear the error codes yourself, but be sure to get a dump of all the current errors inc ase there is something else that needs the dealers attention before you do that.

I was considering LED lights for my boat trailer, but was informed by dealer's service manager that I would need to add resistor to circuit, otherwise system would not recognize trailer attached

If you have the genuine towbar all you need the appropriate adapter - check with your VW parts department!

So did you ever fit some LED's in your Fogs?

I'm thinking of running LED's in my fogs and just using them along with my LED parkers as DRL's.

Let us know how you went if you did end up doing yours!

    cheers,
