Towing the Van....Here we go..

Well there have been many sleepless nights over the last 12 months...
2011 7 speed dsg... diesel.... TIG...(plus the two of us)
That damn 100 kg ball weight has been a pain from day one....When we bought the car the salesman stated 10% or 200kg...
After pick up and some reading the 100 kg came to light.... (bugger)
Oh well...lets see what we can do....
Short of the story is that over 11 months I have not had the time to tow the van...But have managed to have the van modified and a new compliance plate fitted by Coromal ( 4.7m pop top)
The original ball weight was 120kg....now with some modifications we come in at 95kg loaded and hooked to the car....
It has meant that we travel lighter...no longer carry 2 9kg gass bottles...(down to one 4.5kg).....
Hooked the Van on yesterday..loaded...checked weight...95kg on the ball!!!!!!!....and loaded...
And...off we have gone...just a small trip day one... travel of 150kms...
So far...outstanding drive....Tig pulls the van really well...(1375kg)...Straight away noticed the dsg even in D holds the gears longer....Ride is outstanding....Far better pulling power up through the Adelaide Hills then either of the two previous Diesel DUal cabs...(both new..2007 Nissan and 2009 Tritan)...
Downside...Dont have the Dual cab ute which was so handy for all the extras and no ball weight problems...The ability to carry what we wanted and the ease of throwing it in the back of the ute....
The big upside and the pay off is comfort....

TEKONSHA PRODIGY P2 ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER..... private auto elec fit...(southern towbars in Adelaide)

Quick update:
After 550km....
Outstanding towing performance.....DSG has been excellent....(98% of the time...the other 2% just pop it into manual...)
fuel economy has been outstanding...Over 550km the average is 9.7l......
Cruising speed 90-95....

Do you know if when they installed your controller did they get the power + / - direct from the battery ??
