Looking at a used tiguan. persuade me

My brother is c looking at a 2010/11 tiguan. This is the facelift. He is also looking at a 2010 Honda crv and the subaru xv.
As a current gti owner I said the tig sound be a nice drive. However I'm unsure about the reliability and quality issues wrt the tiguan.
Also. Which model would be the best? Its For his missus so speed isn't a factor so the 147 isn't a priority. Is the tdi better than the tsi?

Currently on carsales there r a few around the high 20k Mark. Most r well optioned with leather. Sat navigation. Ops and sunroof. I think 25k would snag any of the models.
Is v the 7sp dsg the same problematic gearbox as the golfs that has been in the news?
    Cheers

DSG in Tiguan is 7 speed DQ500 wet clutch rated to 500Nm (also used in Transporter and Audi TTRS) and not to be confused with the low torque Golf/Polo/Passat dry clutch DQ200 with the recall issues.

Facelift happened towards the end of 2011. So 2010 will definitely be the original shape. The facelift is 2012 model - released in October 2011.

Regards TDI vs TSI it's a personal choice. TDI for fuel economy and TSI if you want to chip it

No major issues - I'd just stay away from the FWD only 118TSI as this is the same twin charger engine in the Golfs and there have also been a few issues with this engine in the Tiguan also.

Ok. So the 125 and the 132? Both very good?

    125 is pre-facelift (2008-2011) and132 is 2012-.

Both run a detuned 2.0 turbo petrol which is same engine mechanically that is in Golf GTI.

TDI is also pretty bullet-proof so you can't really go wrong with any of these.
No major problems with either of these.

So basically a flash from a tuner and either the 125 or 132 becomes gti spec? internals such as pistons and rods etc r the same?

Exactly the same engine as the GTI.
A flash for the 125/132 takes it to 189kw, well above the stock GTI.

R u sure. My stg1 apr on my gti didn't get anywhere near 189. And stg2 would have been 189kw if lucky

Exactly. 125TSI gets tuned to 189kW with stage1.

You get an AWD system so no issues with with wheelspin and uprated fuel pump if you want to add a DP to take it to 2+.

The only thing is it does weigh a bit more due to AWD system and the extra size. But stage 1 is a cheap upgrade to add around 60kW to the base model 2.0 Tig.

We're talking flywheel kW and not kwaw. Drivetrain loss is around 25% on the AWD so on the dyno it will come out around 140kwaw.

But still a 50% increase over stock for $1,000 or so.

Either c way. You r saying that the Gti engine gets to Golf r power. 192kw with stg 1 tune. Whereas I had stg 2 on my gti and no way was it golf r power.
Either way. Seems like it's either the tdi or a well optioned 125
