    Break & Enter

Some A.hole smashed my front drivers side window last night & stole my wallet... Was a rare occasion that i left my wallet in my car. (minimal cash, 20 bucks i think...) Replacing the cards & licence is a bit of a pain.
Police said there had been 2 others reported in my area last night, as well. Strange they didn't take my (cheap) GPS, Maglite torch, Suunto compass, quality sunglasses, etc etc...
Question is, would the cost of the repair justify an inurance claim? My excess is $550 & tinting will be required...
    Thanks.

Sorry to hear that mate. It's very petty the value of your items stolen, that said extremely difficult and time consuming to replace things. My opinion for a $550 insurance excess would be to claim on it, especially given most policies cover to some extent value of property stolen in the vehicle. Definitely do the numbers to see if it will cost you over $550, I'm guessing it will. Good luck!

    sorry to hear mate.

I would def say claim on insurance, depending on your policy...

Glass / window supply and fitting alone would be that much I'm sure. Then tint etc.....

Also check to see if any interior parts have been scratched by either the rock or broken glass....that would all add up in price, so insurance would cover that too.

    Hope it all goes well!

If you are not on a protected no-claim bonus, then any claim can mean your no-claim bonus drops to 0%. Just figure out how many years you will be paying extra to get it back.

Nut now here's something to consider. You may need to file a report but make it clear that you are NOT making a claim. I know you must do this for accidents, as not reporting the incident can mean "failure to disclose". The same goes for things traffic offences.

I had a minor bingle when another car pulled out into my lane and hit me. I had to make a report but make it perfectly clear that it was NOT a claim. The NRMA (I was insured with them) actually tried to cancel my no-claim bonus and I had to fight them because apart from it not being my fault, I had also made it clear on my report that it was not a claim. By the way, this was written in big red letters across every page of my report!

So, check everything out and make any report you have to make absolutely clear.

    Thanks for replies...
Well, Winscreens O'B came & fixed it today. There may be a few bits of glass in there that didn't want to come out, but a pretty good job none the less. $478, with a quote for $60 for the matching tint (SPF, or something from Arma Tinting, or something).
So, $12 less than the $550 excess. Was informed (RACV) that i wouldn't lose my no-claim bonus if i claimed, but next claim i would, so opted to just pay up. Would have rathered spend my five-fiddy on something else...

Further to this, & a recent thread relating to possible leakage with the air-con:

Have had 2 more recent instances of a small (half cup-ish) amount of water on the rubber mat (front drivers side). One after a wash, & one after heavy rain. Did some close inspecting of causes & have come to the conclusion that the replaced after-market window (front drivers side) may not be exactly the same shape as the original one. Where the glass meets the rubber molding at the base of the window, it's not as 'snug' as the other 3 windows. About 5-10cm at the rear of the window & about 15cm at the front have a 'not-so-snug' fit, where there is about a 0.5mm to 1mm gap where water is allowed to go down inside the door.
There are 2 drain holes under the door, i guess to allow for a small amount of moisture to escape or dry, but the amount in my case would be more than that, & seems to make its way onto the floor mat. It has to go over the rubber seal & plastic at the sill, but i guess if it's wet, then it may be able to trickle in by capillary action, or capilarity...

    Bummer, hey? !!!

Anyway, i have someone from Windscreens O'B calling me tomorrow to discuss... Would like an OEM one...

    Any wise tips or suggestions?

Yep...ask them to cover the cost of replacing the wet carpet...you just dont know how bad it might be under the carpet...
