    2010 Tiguan has 6 speed auto, 6 speed DSG or 7 speed DSG ? ? ?

guys, im looking for a good old tiguan, coming from a MK5 golf TDI DSG i LIKE it and don't mind driving the same car on sticks

interestingly wiki says tiguan comes in 6sp manual, 6sp Auto, 6sp DSG and 7sp DSG...

because i found a few ads online with a 2010 model tiguan, it has the pre-facelifted exterior, however the interior is different to 2009 tiguan(which is same as Mk5 golf, exactly same gear shifter without the DSG badge)

these 2010 tiguan, it has the 'older' shape exterior, but the cockpit is same as the facelifted version, same as Mk6 Golf,

it has the new design steering wheel, gauge cluster is new, white on black instead of blue/red. and shifter is the new design shifter, look like a carrot with button at the front. the photo of those ads are too hard to tell if it has DSG badge on the stick...

very interestingly because some 2010 tiguan has the older design cockpit, some has the newer design cockpit.
on top of that some 2011 model Also have the older exterior but new interior, but some 2011 model has new interior.

question is, if it has the new interior does it mean it has DSG? and if DSG will be 6 speed or 7 speed? because i've never heard an tiguan with 6 speed DSG except wikipedia >_<

oh by the way i found another ad, it's 2010 model, old exterior, New gauge cluster, but old steering wheel and old gear knob. WTH is going on with VW ? ?

That particular vehicle has the AQ450 Aisin 6 speed torque converter auto.
Later models (2011-2017) moved to DQ250 6 speed wet dual clutch DSG for the TSI models and DQ500 7 speed wet clutch DSG in the TDI.

Basically early Tiguans as you have noticed are like a Golf 5 and then switch to a Golf 6 look. However the Tiguan is actually based on the PQ46 platform (Passat B6/B7) so gets things like electric park brake and options like PLA self parking.

Actually all the mid-2010 on 4motion (AWD) Tiguans got the 7 speed DQ500 DSG. That is except for the "Pacific" models in 2012 when there was a global shortage of DQ500 DSGs and they went back to the 6 speed torque converter. However in 2013 when the DQ500 shortage ended they brought back the 7 speed DSG but still called the model "Pacific".

    Confused yet???

Basically look at the gear shifter. If it says DSG it's a DSG. If not it's the auto (or manual but that should be pretty obvious).

The only 6 speed DQ250 DSG's (same as Mk6 GTI/R gearbox) came in the FWD 118TSI facelift model from 2012 onwards. I wouldn't recommend this model as the engine is less reliable. Having said that the timing chains/guides in the petrol engines need to be replaced every 100,000km and there have been more than a few of these go and total the engine (mk6 GTI, mk2 Octavia VRS, Tiguan 2.0TSI).

Does anyone know who made the 6 speed manual in the '09 TDI? Inferior to the '06 Mk5 Golf that I have.

I will put it another way. The Tig box is good but the Golf is better. By comparison, the Tig gearbox has a tendency to be a bit notchy
at times & the linkage is not as precise. My wife owns the Tig. & agrees with me that the Golf is better. IMO the Golf has the best manual
I have ever used & in nearly 60 years of driving have owned mostly VWs but also 2 Mercedes & 2 Porsches.

Guys I'm back again. Cos I'm LOVING the tiguan diesel. Last year I've brought a 2014 tiguan diesel with DQ500 DSG and is awesome. Now we need a second cheaper beater car. And considering another tiguan but budget can't stretch to a 2012+ so considering 2008-2010.
And they most come with 6 speed auto
Is that box any good? How reliable and easy to service urself?? We have many VW in the family all DSG so I'm not sure if good idea to get an auto

The DSG only came in mid 2010. Before that all Tiguans either had manual or the 6 speed auto.

The auto is pretty reliable but not as efficient as the DSG so fuel economy is not quite as good and performance is not as quick either.

Though it’s probably a better choice for towing.
