Wanted - Trades Person Willing To Work

I have today encountered another tradesperson who wil not do a piece of work on my Mk V R32, this is the second time I have encountered this. Apparently if the work involves plugging something in, or re-programming VCDS, then the work is no problem. Anything more taxing that is perhaps not written in a manual is out of the question, too much hard work.

Today's tradesperson was European AutoTech in Mona Vale NSW. They (Derek) did my ECU upgrade and AWD controller, so I called them to do a number of bits and pieces as follows:

    1) I have installed Audi S6 DRL's - they are installed to the point of the wires sitting in the engine bay needing a connection. This I did after the last trades person refused to do the job, so I figure I do all the hard work and then leave someone to connect the dots.

    2) I bought a VW Mk 6 reverse camera kit over eBay - from Tech-Toys in the UK - that turned out to be a Kufatec kit with OEM Camera/Badge. At the time I made the purchase Kufatec didn't have them listed on their website but by the time it had been delivered a month later they did. I have installed this to the point of having cables sitting at the front of my car - when Derek from European AutoTech discovered that this didn't mean there was a nice connector sitting there waiting to be plugged into the back of the RNS510 he shied away from it, quoting previous issues with Kufatech. At this point our phone call ended, I didn't get to the other things I need done...

    3) I have a proximity device I need installed, will be a fairly easy job, just needs power and some re-coding of the new key, although I can do the re-coding myself.

    4) I have a stealth Radar and a stealth Laser detector (actually front parking sensors) that need to be properly installed ASAP.

Now some of this stuff I can continue to labour away at myself. However, my wife believes that if I am not at work then my time is at her disposal, so Sunday afternoons spent "playing" with my car are becoming most unpopular.

Hence my quest to find somebody to do the auto-electrics involved with my purchases.

So, can anybody recommend a competent and more importantly, interested Auto Electrician in the Sydney area, as close to North Sydney as possible ?

Some people have a comfort zone for one of two reasons, either they just don't believe they have the skills or they have tried and been burnt trying to help someone out.

The former may be fine at reading and following instructions or doing a pre-defined list of work, but step outside that and they just aren't confident enough to take your money and give it a bash.

The later may have been helpful in the past only to have something go horribly wrong and end up in a world of hurt. Sticking to the "standard" things can be safe and easy. In your case you have someone saying they have had issues with that particular make in the past and don't want to touch it again, perfectly fair IMHO.

Don't be down on these people who may otherwise do fantastic work. If your *really* keen on using a particular person, maybe a little negotiation along the lines of taking responsibility for the parts, ie if something breaks you'll pay for any labour required to fix or replace it if it's the kit at fault.
