Alpine INA-W900E Installed into MK5 and MK6 GTI

UPDATED with MK6 GTI install - Scroll down!

Disclaimer: I work for a car audio store who sell the product mentioned below. This is not an advertisement for the product or my employer. This post is to simply show how an aftermarket unit can be integrated into a Golf V or VI.

As a fellow GTI owner I was very keen to get the new Alpine INA-W900E touchscreen into some customer cars. The first one was done yesterday, a Mk5 GTI whose owner needed bluetooth, navigation & iPod control in his car.

    The Before

    The After

    The Awesome

An interesting fact, the facia kit used for the installation was in fact a genuine alpine supplied unit that has the same look and feel as the surrounding dash. The soft rubber facia integrates perfectly into the factory position. We were very happy with the results and so was the customer.

I've ordered one of these units for my MK6 GTI, I'll update the thread when I have mine installed.

UPDATE!!! INA-W900 installed yesterday into MK6 GTI.

I have the same unit in my car, however the back and forward button on the steering wheel do not work. My installers tried everything and couldn't get them programmed. Do all the steering wheels controls in that customers car work with this unit?

What model golf do you have? All the Mk5 and Mk6 Golfs we have worked on have retained track up/down feature with the correct parts.

05 MK5 GTI. All the other controls work correctly except for the back and forward controls.

The adapter kit for MK5 GTI requires that the MFD be on audio mode for track up/down to work. If that doesnt work then the installers have used the wrong kit for your car. It all worked perfectly with pictured MK5.

Hey Scorpion, I have a genuine Alpine to VW steering wheel interface that works fine in my Passat off a similar (older) unit, track up / down works no problem so it might be the interface they used?
I'm going to get one of the genuine Alpine one's to Skitz (now that I've worked out who he is !) so he can get back to me about the operation in his Mk 6.
I've checked and the Mk 5 should be no problem too.
We've ordered them, they'll be in stock probably early Dec (but don't hold me to that)

Just went in to find out about ordering the facia kits (listed in the Alpine Winter 2010 catalogue, still on the website) amd got told that to order the facia kit, it comes in a pack with the INA-W900E, which makes it a close to $3k install. Can't even special order it to retrofit to existing Alpine units. Got told that Alpine are worried about people using their fascia kit with other brand HU's. Funny, thought that was why they charged for it.

Can I order the dash kit seperately?? Anyone?
