RNS 510 freezing and crashing after a week..

Hi Guys,

I picked up my GTI on the 17 of april and decided to take it for a drive north to newcastle..

About 1.5 hrs into the journey the unit just reset itself without me doing a thing. This happened again so i pulled over and re-entered the addressit calculated then froze again. I turned it off and on and tried again to get the same result. When i turned it off it kept coming up with the VW - dynaudio start up screen over and over :|

Also to add this my iphone appeared to be charging on the MDI, but when the RNS died i pulled the phone off to use the maps and the phone died aswell because it wasnt charging from the start!! So frustrating!

So i went from having two electronic maps to nothing! Embarressing when there were people in this optioned up gti with a malfunctioning RNS510!

It eventually stopped doing that. I tried it again a few days later on the way back to sydney and the music worked fine until i set the sat nav. It froze again and kept coming up with that start up screen again.

I left it another day and tried it on the way to work and on the way back 2 days in a row and its working perfectly

I told the dealer something was wrong and now its working fine lol Its really annoying because i use the nav alot and i dont know if i can trust it so im carrying aound my TomTom in case.

Has anyone else had this problem??

There are several posts on here about an anomaly with the satnav on the road towards Newcastle from Sydney, I'm not sure of the exact location but it is reported to do very strange things to the RNS510. Away from this location the reports are it works fine. Do a search and you will find it.
