RCD-510 - Multi-language support (unicode?)

Hi there,

I have a whole bunch of MP3s with filenames containing non-english characters. These characters are displayed as squares on the screen (which is inconvenient). Is there a solution? Maybe a firmware update that supports these characters? Surely firmware in other countries supports this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your unit can probably be set up for several languages other than English (RTFM?), but any change will affect everything the unit displays, so unless it has that language in its firmware and you're at home in that language it wouldn't be much use.

I don't think anyone has yet made a playback unit that includes a multi-lingual translator.

Maybe renaming your MP3's, even if tedious, would be a solution.

The way I understand it - changing language setting will just change the display language of the interface.
I need to (somehow) be able to read file names that have non-english characters. Long shot - I know, but thought someone might have had the same problem and solved it.

LOL.... I've had the same problem.... Changed all the names to english... Took me 10 hours at least.... It's a **** job to do. But once you've done it. It feels soooo good...

I think you can get the formware of you language in you home country and it's still can display english.

Oh, I am 99% sure there are firmware versions for other countries to support local languages (code pages?). Question is - will local VW dealers/workshops have access to these versions?

Will upgrading the firmware somehow solve the problem? Was thinking if maybe lets say the Chinese firmware was uploaded.. I'm sure it'll be able to recognize both english and chinese characters.

Might be quicker just to start listening and finding foreign songs with naturally english titles from now on.
