opinions needed on front speaker placement????????

Need some input into front speaker placement in my T3 Caravelle.

Currently have 6" 3way speakers mounted in crappy spacers in the bottom of the front doors. As per the first picute. As you can imagine, most of the sound is lost / blocked by running straight into the drivers & passengers lower legs.

I am thinking about making up a fiberglass speaker pod /enclosure to mount in front of the gear shift in the centre of the dash / front kick. Looking to use 6" split speakers with the tweeters located in one of two locations as shown in the picture below.

This is obviously only a rough layout to give an indication of what I am planning.
Position 1 is my first option for tweeter location.

Do you think this will be an improvement on what I currently have, or am I wasting my time doing this?
My thinking is that at least the suorce of the sound will be closer to the listeners ears, but will having both side speakers mounted centrally destroy the "stereo" sound.

    Whats your thoughts.

    Cheers

Splits mate - woofers (ok, they are really mid in that size) in the existing door location with some tweeters mounted on the dash next to the a-pillars pointing at the headrest of each seat will be heaps better - the mid and bass are not as directional as the high frequency sound put out by the tweeters, so should more than suffice.
If you were to go with a panel like that in fibreglass, it would be hard to stop it resonating, unless you damped it with some sound mat, and then you might as well have spent the extra $ on decent splits.

Keeping the mids in the doors, and as mentioned above the high's on each side will give you that nice stereo effect surround sound gives to TV setups. My vote is for putting the mids as high up as possible in the doors, on Dynamat or similar ( Jaycar has not bad much cheaper stuff ) and the tweets as outlined above, up high and pointing towards you as much as possible.

Thanks guys, looks like its back to the door panels, provide a better mount etc for the woofer & get the tweeters up as high as possible in the door or up in the corner of the dash.

Glad I asked, looks like I saved my self a lot of work & rework.

    Cheers
