Partial success with RCD510 and iTunes tracks (M4A/AAC)

Has anyone had any luck playing music purchased from the iTunes store on their new (MY10) RCD510? According to the manual, it seems that only WMA and MP3 songs are compatible, but I am sure it is possible to play AAC files as well.

I'm using the MDI kit in my new GTI, with a USB stick (not the iPod cable). Trying to play an individual AAC file, or trying to play a folder containing AAC files, would produce an error: 'The file of the playlist cannot be found'. I went back to my PC, fired up iTunes, and used the 'Create AAC Version' on the problem files (which, to repeat, were already AAC files), and these DO play off the stick. This doesn't seem to be the full solution though - the artist and title tags aren't displayed on the HU. But at least the music plays, and the track filename is shown.

Does anyone know what's going on here? The size of the AAC files pre and post iTunes 'conversion' is similar. The bitrate and directory structure of the music is not altered either. I notice that some tags have been removed from the 'converted' files that are working, but removing those tags from unconverted files is not enough to make them play in-car.

Any ideas?

Did you resolve this issue with AAC files?

I found the easiest way is to convert to mp3.

Just right click on aac and select convert to mp3 in itunes.

Simple copy to SD card and delete from itunes.
