Touareg 7L 6D Trunk Elec - Electric trunk not closing using the close switch

Hello All,
My Touareg 7L has developed a issue hoping someone here would know where to look to try and fix it.

The Issue
The Boot lid(Trunk) opens fine electronically using the driver door button and remote etc.
Once open, it will not close using the close button (F206) located at the bottom of the boot lid.
The close button used to work fine, it just stopped working one day.

Minor annoyance, I have to manually push the boot lid closed and it locks fine.

Troubleshooting I've done

1. I have checked the wires(continuity test) and all 4 wires are fine from the button all the way to the lid control module hidden at the bottom left corner of the car.
2. Thinking it was the button itself, I replaced it with another one.
3. Using VCDS I can see the button activating when pressed.
4. Done the VCDS test for the 6D trunk elect. and the boot lid activates in both directions electronically (Open and Close) without any issue.
5. Done Basic settings as per instructions here. Didn't solve the problem.

All the above, leads me to think it is some sort of software setting issue. But what?

I have a tow bar fitted although I doubt it has anything to do with it. It used to work fine until few months ago.

Has anyone got a 7L Touareg? What is your setting like?
