    How to stop a smokey engine in 10 mins!

    Get one of those shaker tins of AJAX sink scourer and sift it into the carby, whilst motor is running and you are revving it.

    Dont do this near your house or that of your neighbours empty country rd is best.

    Loads of crud will billow out of the motor through the exhaust. Go for a 10 min drive and car will blow heaps less smoke.

    YEAH RIGHT, thats what I thought, until me and my mate were about to start ripping this V8 motor out which had stuffed rings. Throught, ah well try it out see if it is balony. It is the bomb. Wouldn`t try it on a good car and only works for carby, but it sorted this Holden out. Easier than pulling the motor out.

    Previously to this anything over 2500 RPM just lead to billows of smoke, now a week later, its all still good! You can put your foot down and it just goes instead of blowing smoke.

    I reckon the AJAX is so caustic that it scours the bores, does like a mini hone and dissolves the grease from the rings. Crazy, but I like it.

    and i thought the only way to stop an engine burning oil after 10 min was switch it off!!!!!ajax...does it stop the x from nagging you ? cheers steve

    Old, old trick, Matt. Well used by dodgy car salesmen in the old country, only there they used "Vim". Yeah, I'm not dodgy but I've done it in the past with the same good result as it busts the glaze on the cylinders. Problem with it is that because the pistons are going up and down in the bores (they do that, you know!) the "honing" produces vertical scratches rather than the nice, 45 degree swirl that you get from a rotary honer. It works in the short term and of course should be followed by a very timely oil change...I would even do a flush before....and is great as a cure for old engines. Ultimately, of course, you'll have to rebuild!
