SO today on a break was able to remove the rear tail light.

The "mount " for it is not terribly good, made by a guy fixing a rear end bang up about 20 years ago. So we will do something else with that.

The light itself is apparently genuine split (late 40's ) so it will be kept.

will find some pictures of what the mount should look like.

Plan for this weekend is to remove the engine cover, and the bonnet. We have a bunch of doors, guards and bonnets at FIL's place so will need to assess them for repair pieces when lock down is over

So today, bonnet if off, engine lid is off.

Petrol tank looks empty - not suprising after 20 years in the open

A lot of work on both of these panel sot get trhem back to scratch, the engine lid has ben repaired from a rear ending, and looks like there is bog on some parts so we will see if that can be improved.

Also removed the drivers side mirror, which needs a rebuild of the uni.

Waiting patiently for the hinge pin remover next week

So hnge day todya - what a pain in the arse. The one with thread for the mirror is o.k. so probably end up leaving that ne alone.

The lower on the drivers side is looking good and coming out -picture attached.

The top on passenger side is out about 2mm and now is stuck fast.

The lower one is just stuck and will not move at all.

Ended up trying to get some extra levergae by using a hollow hammer shaft over the handle, but it broke the handle

Will need to get a new handle made and think about how I get move leverage to get these things out.

Received the new running boards today.

These will be eventually covered by canvas for a military look.

Thanks to Tony at Volks World - Home Page for his help with these

No action today. Moving things around the factory, and had to gather some parts for little projects before we hit Stage 4 lockdown in my city.

Have the repaired bumper on it's way from Perth WA and decided today (subject to agreement with FIL) that we will put in a new wiring harness from these guys Vintage Wiring Harness - Vehicle List - RSTUVW

Will also work this week on fixing the handle for the hinge pin remover.

Still in Stage 4 lockdown - hoping it comes off soon, but will do some work on the smaller jobs before we can get back to the factory.

So - update after a looooooong time off line on this project.

my FIL sadly passed away but this has spurred me onto get moving on the project - I want it fished by March 2025 so it can back to Corowa for the Military Vehicle Swim-In.

My FIL and MIL had been there a number of times in the VW decked out in German uniforms and even with “POW” painted on the front windscreen and sides - pictures to follow.

Have had to cut the door hinges off, still yet to get some oxy on the remove the last of the hinge pins.

Engine will be out next and then a trip to an expert VW welder/restorer to see what the A pillars need and other critical body parts need from a weld perspective and see what approx cost might be.
