If you feel like scanning it I am interested. Even if you just pm me rather than posting it. I think my beezer would be sweet with a 6 speed.

I realise this thread is from earlier in the year, but I've just registered here (I know a few folks from the wider www, including Phaeton and Ausgolfer).

A six speed 02S box can be made to fit a Mk1 - it isn't too long, though you may find the tyre rubs on near-full lock, in which case a rack limiter is the best way to fully address it.

The old Gemini gearkits which were made in dog and semi-helical formats were effectively 02S gearboxes, long before VW made these themselves. They're an 02A/J gearbox with a 6-speed end casing.

Edit: oh and the Quaife 6-gearkit mentioned earlier fits inside the same 02A/J casing, with their casing extension, so they fit just the same.

I personally have an 02A/J Gemini 6-speeder in a Mk1, so can vouch for the fitment of one.

It fits fine with driveshafts from a late Scirocco/Golf 1 cabrio, 100mm inner c/w CVs.

Brackets are an issue, since they are different to an 020 - there are several places making them in the UK, though I realise that isn't mega helpful.

The 02S's a relatively rare - here is the best data I've seen on them:

As for the 02M six speeder, commonly found in various Golf 4s, A3s, Seats, they're a hugely heavy box, and need bespoke driveshafts, mountings etc etc. People are often trying to fit these and I've no doubt it's do-able, but it doesn't make for an easy life. Some people do it for the challenge, and fair enough. 8-)

This is also worth a look - a gearbox FAQ which is continually added to.

    Hope useful.

Just thought I'd add that the V5 manual Bora uses an 02j not an O2m , so the only 02ms available are the 4 motion ones . They are tricky to convert to fwd , Im working on it
