It Begins: The S3 1.8T into my '85 Mk2 GTI

Well folks, here goes!! The donor car finally made it to my backyard. It was a bitch right until it was pushed into the shed, but now its time for my revenge, hahahaaarrr.
I'm taking the '98-'04 AMK Audi S3 1.8T 20v engine and putting it into my tired '85 mk2 Golf GTI.
I got the complete donor car pretty cheap so I could salvage as much as possible off it to make the swap easier, and I can pretty much cover my costs once i've sold off all the components from the rest of the car (6speed quattro trans, adjustable Bilstein coilover kit, alcon brakes, etc, etc).
So far i've just stripped out most of the interior and cleaned up all the broken bits off it.
Heading to Belmont Tool Centre to buy some good quality tools (not bunnings crap) today so i can get stuck into the big stuff today. Let me know if you want some S3 parts!
I have some pics, so pm me if you wanna see as i cant figure out how to get pictures on the thread. I might even do a website.
    Cheers, Wade

Nah, because i wanted to keep my original instrument cluster and ignition barrel i decided to go with Quantum Performance Engineering's specialised "Plug n Play" kit. They just modify the engine harness and give you a new ecu to match and plug into the old fusebox. You still need most of the 1.8T sensors and stuff though. Its also mapped to give the engine around 50bhp extra, so i'm preparing for some torque steer issues!!!! (270bhp in a mk2 with no power steering!) Yes, I am slightly unstable mentally

    strip that S3!

    Hi all.
More progress dismantling the Audi today, but has anyone tried removing rear discs off these things?
I have taken off the caliper, unscrewed the little securing screw on the disc and undone the main hub nut but the disc wont budge. I'm worried about damage if I clout it too hard with a mallet...
    Any suggestions welcome!

I like the sound of this one Make sure you start some gym work now, so you can control the little beastie when done I'm running a QPENG 20vt kit in my Mk1 GTI. Great way to go and dead easy 240bhp is plenty enough in a Mk1, so 270bhp in a Mk2 will be mad Good luck with it.

    Hey mate

Sounds awesome - Would be incredible if you could get a 4wd mk2 floorplan (or make one) and put together a 1.8turbo 6 speed quattro Mk2 !

But otherwise - What interior trim have you gotten? Have you got the S3 audio gear (intact?)

    Thumbs down Nnnoooooooo!!!!!!!

AAAHHH! I stacked my GTI last night!!! Going a teeny bit too quick around a blind corner at night on an unfamiliar bit of road, WHOA, T-JUNCTION!... locked inside front... straight on into and over the curb and into the dust! Conveniently there was a big, square concrete drain culvert built into the curb to bounce over!
It was badly lit, there was no give way sign and the dead end sign at the t-junction had been nicked from its posts!! Intersection just came from nowhere.
Amazingly and testament to the build quality of our beloved VW's nothing actually broke off the car and it was still running with both headlights ablaze when it came to rest!
BUT.. the passenger front wheel ended up bent back up under the the front door hinge, which in turn has pushed the whole A pillar upwards causing the windscreen to fracture and it has also pushed and slightly buckled the roofline up, so it looks terminal i'm afraid!
All this just three days after finally getting the S3 donor car
So the shannons guy will check it over and most likely write it off in the next coupla days.
Anyone out there selling a 5 door mk2?
