    TDi 5th gear.

I was just thinking tonight. Could i fit the 5th gear from a TDi into my VR6, and take advantage of the taller ratio, maybe i could improve my fuel economy. would this work? has anyone ever done it?

they do it all the time in the US but usually after changing their final drive so theyre not doing 3000rpm on the fwy.
Its not a cheap part though. Last time i checked was around $250US plus shipping.

I always found it a little odd that my vr6 does 3k rpm at 100kph, I expected less. My old 1986 Mazda 626 did the same revs at 100, but with a 2L 4cyl carbie motor!

I think its so u can put the power down easily without having to downshift?? It really annoy me tho and one of the downsides to my car. Lucky i dont have an exhaust to exacerbate it!!

Dude, a VR6 without a decent exhaust is like...

...heavy metal without double bass drums!
...violent computer games without oceans of blood!
    ...nandos without extra hot sauce!

    etc

My exhaust really drones at about 80, at 110 it's pretty quiet.

Except when my ears are bleeding at 90. I think I'm going to try some exhaust wrap on the straight sections, see if it cuts down on some of the resonance.
