Shaved Bays

Hey there fellow dubbers

Well The question was put to me on Sunday night "Are you going to go shaved bay" this got me thinking, I want to keep everything in the bay but want to shave something I guess or just in general make the whole engine bay look alot more cleaner!

Also what are the processes of shaving an engine bay, I looked at vortex but theydidn't have anything. Also do I need to remove the engine or can I work around it?

Keep in mind that I am going to be running a Black Powdercoated Schrick with red lettering, red samco hose kit and possibly a few other backened or red items to keep in my theme which is black and white (the red is for abit of colour!)

From what I hear, it's best working with an engine-less engine bay. Shaving an engine bay can only be done properly through welding and LOTS of sanding of the seams. As for keeping the engine bay looking clean, there are a few items (I don't know what they specifically are) that you can remove but may void roadworthiness. However I do know that you can relocate the battery to the rear, which would be one of the easier mods that clear up the most space!

Agreed with engine out. We did it to a mates HQ GTS and anouther mates candy red Nissan Pulsar ET, and its was a massive job on both. Bigger on the GTS, couse we smoothed the rails!

The ET was a apain because of all the EFI stuff. We relocated the battery in both and ditched all the emisions stuff in the ET and hid nearly all the wireing. That sucked.

the roadworthy part should only be in regards to your windscreen washer bottle wouldnt it?, so u could replace it with something a lot smaller, sorta like those oil catch cans? also im not sure how well a daily driver would be with no coolant reservoir and just replaced with a T piece on the pipe from the radiator; have to cut up your samco, having no overflow and u'd have to keep an eye somehow on the level of coolant u have by periodically topping it up i guess? I read somewhere of a low pressure or low level radiator or something like that on a car with the above mentioned shaved bottle? . . . be wicked! though like ray mentioned, i think u'll find it'd be easier revoving your donk

i agree - not to dis your idea - but geez mate, there are easier ways to win car show awards - and more practical too.

yeh its the kind of thing you would do as a 'side job' if you were replacing the whole front half (i.e. a mk3.5 conversion)

It was an idea that was thrown around its not like I was going to lunge straight in and go for the gugular or something, it would only be something very mild and just enough to make it look more appealing thats all

Yea I agree. The only reason people do it is if they are building show or race cars, both which normally require to have the engine out at some stage...
