Recommendation on software for OBD2 diagnostics cable mk3 vr6 golf

    Hi there All,

Can anyone advise on where the name and a possible source for software to diagnose my Vr6 golf 95

    Hopefully something that is intuitive.

    Thanks is advance,

Back in that era the computer is pretty basic so even then generic OBDII cables from ebay for under $10 using VAGCOM 409.1 in it's basic mode can read pretty much everything you need. For the investment it's a pretty good place to start.

While a proper licensed Ross-Tech cable with VCDS would be ideal, it's far more expensive that you want to spend. As for intuitive... that's a different question.

    Thanks HAWK,

The cable came with 409.11 and VCDS LITE now ON TO DECIPHER THE CODES.

G70 open or short to plus (this is with my old MAF)
G70 intermittent short to earth = - (new eurorevolotion supplied MAF)

I suspect some wiring is a bit iffy somewhere.

    Hi Hawk

I am getting the same code with the MAF disconnected completely - does this definitely indicate that the wiring is the problem???
    G70 short to earth (29)

    Any help appreciated.

Have you cleared the code each time?

If it keeps coming back it does sound like it's a wiring problem.

It does come back after clearing, nearly instantly,

    there are 4 wires
    1 is earth
1 is some signal to ecu to pin 17
1 is some signal to ecu pin 16
    1 is some power

I dont know which is which to troubleshoot.

I would be checking the contacts on the cable to see if there is any damage or corrosion that might be messing around with the connection.
