    question for VR6 engine experts only

    can someone whos seen for themselves tell me wether the valve springs run shims under them...ie the washers that go between the head casting and tghe spring itself....this is for completely stock motor

    would anyone know if there is an online version of the catolog the VW dealers use....

    I called them up and they said it doesnt show any shims but I dont trust them

    would anyone have access to the catalog on their PC?

    I don't reckon there's anything under the spring. I'd call it a washer not a shim. Shim implies it takes out/sets some clearance.

    thanks for the assistance....the car is waiting for its new head but i dont wwant to fit it till im sure...

    yeah washer u could call it but they are also referred to as shims often

    Hi mate there is no shim under the spring on an AAA engine mate, it sits on the head. Hope this helps. Ive done heaps of these engines mate. Pm me if you have any Qs.

    thanks guys, yeah the catalog makes no mention of them so i feel fairly safe now to go ahead and put the head back on....
