question regarding engine light and ICV

Hi guys.

Does your check engine light come on with ignition on like the rest of the dash lights ie, oil, battery etc?

Mine doesnt come on and never had. It has never bothered me as It has always ran fine. Now the golf is playing up and It had me thinking about the check engine light. Globe behind check light tested OK.

Also, the other day I replaced the Idle Control Valve (stepper motor, air bleed, idle actuator, what ever you want to call it) because the idle was up to **** and the actuator was crunching away making nasty noises. Do you need to reset the idle with a vw diagnostic tool after installing the actuator?

I get no check engine light on start up either if that helps, i have no idea if it should though. Am slightly concerned that it has burnt out though as a ran the car with no MAF meter and no light appeared
