Parkers...

Went to change out the parkers in my headlights today, they are aftermarket jobbies (not Hella, but some other brand), and the parker bulb is in a bastard of a place to get in and out. The headlight bulb itself is quite easy, although I'm not looking forward to replacing the high beam as thats a little more difficult to get at.

I tried removing the front grill and the surround, but it didn't really help.


So off to Autobarn I went, bought a couple of new headlight globes while I was there so they both match (both now 4300k bulbs, one used to be stock, one was 4300k).

The new headlights came in a set with some parkers too, but they were that push fitting and not the bayonet I needed so I picked up a couple of normal bulbs for the parkers.

Dropped the headlight bulbs in, no problems, put the parker into it's holder, great... until I tried to put it into the car. Seems the hole it goes into isn't big enough for the rounded bulb to fit through...

Well about an hour later I had pulled the old bulbs out of their bayonet housing and soldered the push ones into place. Not too bad if I say so myself (and I do).

The originals were LED's which Autobarn didn't have.

These bulbs are more than adequate for the moment, but wouldn't mind grabbing a set of LED ones for when these die. Anyone know who stock bayonet fitting LED parker bulbs?

i'm really keen on those dual rounds! i want some and then i'm gonna put some of these in em... saw em in kmart the other day - anyone got opinions on them?


is the parker bulb a wedge type bulb? if so, try repco - thats where i got mine...
if not, find out what type of lights they are (H3, H4, H7...) and do a search on ebay. best prices imho

bayonet fitting ....are they those once you push down and twist?
I was in autobarn aubarn, I saw a wide range of LEDs there. If not you may be able to solder a wedged socket for LEDs, Repco in north parra quoted me 11 bucks something as they have have special oder.

I just spent $100 on the pair of mine, and I still have 2 more to get if I want to have all 4 bulbs the same. Although the high beams can stay as is for the moment.

Phillips Crystal Vision 4300k bulbs. I have just been doing some reading and it seems that the 4000k Blue Vision bulbs are street legal whereas the 4300k bulbs are not.... Oh well

nah thats bull twangs. The law states that the lights must not be a distraction to other drivers, or cannot 'dazzle' them (yes it uses the word dazzle - lol) I looked it all up the the Australian Design Rules booklet off the RTA website. you can get 8000k HIDs and they are plenty legal...

Hey there, by my understanding you wouldn't need HID for high beam, low beam would be brighter than high already. Plus, the blub takes a few secs to warm up, and its bad for bulb if you switch on and off quickly. My point is high beam is only used as for warning others on the road.

Just be careful as that is a 100W globe set, and may melt wires, headlight surrounds etc.

Go with a brand like Philips that offer 4000K + at a 55W so you keep things standard.

These can be had on ebay too, look for store on9city accessories.

Interesting bboyskidz, I didn't think it would be an issue. In fact I think it goes back more to the colour of the bulbs since there is strict rules on what colour go where and what way they point, height, distance from edge... Interesting that the Philips website specifically says "Offroad use only", although that very well may be a thing for the states or Europe. (I did notice on the back of the bulbs it said not for use in Europe or somewhere else I can't recall).

Stay away from those nasty globes. if they get wet at all they will shatter and cause some proper damage to your reflector/lense.

spend the extract cash on some decent philips globes. they are made of crystal and wont shatter.

I have crystalvisions in my vr6 and couldnt be happier.
