New work bus, and request for timing belt advice etc. 4 big pics mobile data people.

I have had a poke around and am gathering some info on doing the timing belt on an ADZ (1997 CL 1.8 ), a mechanic (according to the previous owner) advised that the timing belt was urgent, and you can indeed hear it.

Basically looking for mass links/ideas etc. so I can judge whether the job is out of my league, what kits are good/duds, minimum parts required. Not looking to spend much on this cracker but also want to prolong its life.

Will resize pics soon on PC.

(if you know me you know I like to whore out a new car hard and fast)

    Ref:

That's candy white apparently, do I have a GTI yet?

Manual, wind down windows (very exciting after 6 years and 4 other Mk3s with electric and their crummy regs)

    66kW of utter fury.

Car came with actual clearcoat on the roof, half a tank of fuel, AND $11.20 in change (instant purchase price deduction).

Thinking of vinyl wrap and VR6 twin-turb.... no no, just the timing belt.

Easy and cheap. As with all of them though, having the right tools makes it that way. Stripped 6mm allen bolts on the bottom pulley being the biggest drama you can find usually.

    Cool

What sort of kit should I be looking at, like what should it contain/ what should I do while it's all open and off?

Just the belt and tensioner. Unless you know the aux belt is dead etc.

Belt and tensioner will take an 2 hour for a novice.

    CL's are bullet proof.

Yeah already loving it mate, I'll get it schmick then decide what to do with it, they're not worth putting much money into but a bit of TLC should make a difference.

    Why chains VR6, why!?
