    mk3 cl brake upgrade

    hey all,

my rear drums need to be fully rebuilt and i would like to replace them with some discs. do mk3 gl's have rear discs? I still want to retain 4x100 so vr6 brakes would not be any help.

    thanks

Yep as far as I know you can swap them straight over.

easy peasy. you'll need the the whole stub axel assembly from a GL. VR6 is the same but the disks have 5 holes instead of 4 (vr6 rear brakes are not bigger than GL ones)....

i used a whole VR6 rear end (including axel beam) since it has a stiffening rod thorugh it (like a sway bar) and swapped GL diskes to keep 4 stud. try and get a GL proportioning valve too.

GL and VR6 rear beam and swaybar are the sme, only disks are different.

You will also need to change the proportioning valve on the back axle and maybe some of the brake lines.

I`d leave the drum rear and just put bigger GL disks etc on the front.

If you really want to improve braking upgrade the fronts like loon said. Im running cupra 280mm upfront and the stock drums on the rear. Stops heaps better

Guys, read his conditions...he needs the drums rebuilt, so he's looking at the option of discs....he's not specifically asking about better braking.
