Rear Seats & "Baby Seat Retainer bar", do you need it???????

The black bar that runs across the back of the rear seats in the boot, does it serve another purpose except for baby seat attachment or can you get rid of it?

I looks like its huck bolted in, making it difficult to get out.

No I don't think it does... I've seen debate about it possibly doubling as a rear strut bar but I don't think it helps much cos of the connection points. As for the bolt, you can dremel in a slot and undo it with a big flat-head. Some of the guys here have done it before.

It's one of the ADR requirements that you have child restraint points, regardless of if you need/want/use them or not. By removing it your car is no longer compliant, but the sames goes for many mods people choose to do. Just be aware of the possible implications.

Many people have replaced the non-removeable bolts holding the thing in with removeable ones so they have the option of having the bar in or out when needed. As far as I am aware it's in no way structural, but then I can't definitively say it is or it isn't. Either way I would suggest the removeable bolts AND keeping the bar handy for when you sell the car (or need to put in child seats).
