    Starter motor Problem

    Hey Fella's,

im pretty new to this VW game.. I picked up a 1995 VR6 (Auto - 95k) a few month's back, it was running pretty good until last saturday! Jumped in the car, went to start it ..NO GOOD!! I think the starter motor has had it?

So i thought i'd jump on here and ask some of the local's for a little help with this.
Any idea's on where i could get a starter motor from or of a pretty good workshop i could take the car? Im currently living in Balmoral (Brisbane) ..so yeah, any help would be great.

    Cheers Guys

Did you check the battery? If not turn the interior light on and check if it doesn’t dim while you cranking. If the light goes off it is most likely depleted or dead battery. Also check the battery terminals if they’re not loose or corroded.

Well the battery was either ''new'' to you but not to them, or you haven't turned the car on in a while...I'm guessing a if anything?

Either that or it's not the battery...

Check that there is 12v on the Red/Black wire at the starter when you are trying to crank mate. If no then you may be looking at the ign switch , not uncommon.
    Good luck

Sorry about the late reply. (Internet is yet to be hooked up at home)

Cheers for the advise boys .. i will have the starter motor replace this Saturday, fingers crossed this is the problem?

Another thing, is it a pretty simple job changing this? would be keen to do it myself if it is.

From what I remember, it's a bit fiddly. There are three or four rather large (18mm hex head) bolts, including one which has a thread through it for the earth wire that connects to it. The bolts are a bit of a nuisance to get to so make sure you leave your car off for a while so you don't burn yourself!

If you need/want a detailed description I'll poke my head down there when I've got a chance and let you know how it's done.
