    stupid people

the other day, i went and gave my 1996 golf vr6 a major service which included pretty much everything.
they had an offer on which included a free tank of fuel, which you would be stupid not to accept
but they didn't put premium fuel in the tank. i have felt as if the car is a little sluggy when taking off, but i dont know whether it was something they did, or just the fuel. does anyone know anything about not putting premium in such a car which supposely 'needs' it??

and also does anyone know where i can buy the stock ignition leads from. i want red ones, but they are a pain in the ass to find.
    thanks

Stock ignition leads aren't too hard to find. They're made by Beru and can be sourced from a few places, but they'll be black, not red. Generally all the Beru OEM replacement leads I've seen have been black. You could buy red ones aftermarket, but you may risk them not having the correct bayonet tabs on the sockets which make it possible to pull the leads using the VR6 tool.

As for a free tank of gas - I think I'd rather pay and know what I am getting.
The VR6 is supposed to have 95 RON premium as a minimum. If you think you've been dudded, perhaps buy an octane booster from an auto shop.

If you want red leads, maybe think about getting some protection sleeves? DEi make some red protection sleeves for leads - http://www.ngmotorsport.com/shop/products/29.php. You'll be hitting three birds with one stone I guess - aesthetically appealing, prolong life of your leads and you'll still be using OEM-spec products.

From my understanding, it is only neccessary to use premium if your car begins to make the 'pinging' rattling, marble in can noise. This is because the fuel isn't igniting when it is supposed to causing metal on metal contact with the valves (I think). If you start getting that put octane booster in the tank, otherwise I wouldn't bother. One tank cant be too bad.
