    Shift light help

Ive put together a kit from Jaycar that has a progressive shift light, the instuctions where craptastic but i got through it now the problem is where do i get the signal from.

Ive got 2 options for input and i dont understand one of the two. One input point is for a low voltage signal from the ecu (i understand) and the other is hall effect or something which im guessing is from the dizzy (i dont understand)

If you where to install a shift light in a mk2 where would you get the signal from and where can i find it?

P.S. If you must know why i need a shift light then i will tell you. Its a combination of reasons: one, the car revs up alot quicker then the sh'box RV motor im used to and i keep hiting redline, two, the kit was cheap, three, i was bord and interested. The lights will be in the cluster or in one of the blank switched.

tap it from the instrument cluster or the fusebox. in a mk3 its plug G1 pin 12, could be the same for mk2.

multimeter it, take the instrument cluster out and rev the car. see which pin has a voltage fluctuation.
