Ok to run with unplugged MAF sensor?

The MAF sensor on my mk2 golf 8v has packed up resulting in instant stalling. Can it be run and is it ok to run it without it atleast to get it somewhere to get fixed?

    Won't start, won't run unfortunately.
MK2 - *Insert list of dealer purchased extra's/standard features here*
