Mk2 golf 8v upgrade to mr3 exhaust manifold and down pipes

    Hi all
Looking at freeing up the flow,
I understand you can upgrade the exhaust manifold and down pipes from a mk2 8v (RV), the question! Will the manifold and pipes need to come from a 2 litre ?.
Is the 1.6 litre the same as the 2liter

    Cheers

For clarification. I've been advised changing my stock exhaust to a mk3 manifold and pipes will give better flow, thus extra hp. I've found a wrecker with one off a 1.6 mk3, I just need to confirm if the manifolds and duel down pipes are the same 1.6 & 2liter.

    Any advice would be appreciated

Has to be from a 2 Litre M3 Golf.
I think you will find the 1.6 M3 is actually a 1.8, ADZ, engine.

    doing this mod

I read the gain is 5-7 hp increase, can you notice it increase or i sit just a dyno thing.

the increase is top end only ?

with less back preasure do you lose torque?

I'm considering a diffrent cam in a few month, anyother worth while mods ?

I've got the manifold waiting to go on mine but its not yet at the top of the to-do list. Interested to hear experience from others before i set out to break something that's currently working OK

The standard MK2 manifold on Aussie cars is a joke, you could block the gas flow with a 20c piece. It looks like a decent size pipe but it tapers down to a pollution legal (strangle) size.

Here's the dual pipes in my MK1.

The dual downpipe manifold from a MK3 is a great improvement. It depends on what mods you've done to the motor as to how much extra power you get but 5hp on a standard motor sounds right.
