    MK2 broken door handle

    Hi people,

just a quick one, the original door handle on my car is broken on the inside (lasted 35 years!), I ordered a brand new one (probably made in China) and the new cylinder fits into the old handle but the orignal cylinder from VW does not fit into the new one. Any thoughts for a solution? (I do not want to change all the locks of the car) Officially, I bought the correct product and the Germans don't make them anymore otherwise I'd order the original part

    Cheers !

    G'day Thomas,

just took a couple of pics; actually the cylinders seem to be exactly the same size - the original one just will not go in any deeper than that. Round it out ? I like your thinking Will give it a try !

damn. find the point where its jamming and then clear it out. you might have to destroy the inner plastic cylinder from the handle to fit it. then glue it in. not sure just throwing out suggestions

no worries! Would be fun to know if the plastic handle could be seperated from the metal component inside; I only need the broken bit replaced but it's reveted in ... maybe I'll ask a locksmith for advice but I reckon it'd be expensive.

Should be an easy fit. If all else fails pull the new cylinder apart and swap the slides as best you can to suit the profile of your key then file the top of the slides so they fit neatly back into the cylinder.
