What is the fascination with side rear airbags? Do you carry rear passengers that often? If you do, what is the risk of having a crash?
We all want our passengers to be safe but given the possibility of a side impact crash is "very unlikely" I'm not sure that it would be a "must have" for me.

Not sure of your angle with your statements Brad. It's personal preference, simple as that. I replied to your question, and now you've taken this thread in some random direction about parenting.

Buy a late model Statesman if you want leg room. It is the same as the Superb in my experience of owning both. The rear airbags may be an issue as I am not sure if the Statesman has them.
The only issue I have with the Statesman is the sheer size - they are a bit big.
Surprisingly they are just about the same length as a Superb but they are a bit wider.

at your height I wouldn't bother looking at an Octavia. I'm 1.9m and if have the seat back nearly all the way then the seatbelt is about 3cm-4cm off the front of my shoulder because the pillar is too far forward.
Superb is a brilliant car and perfect for the bigger fellas, especially in the back, it has ridiculous amounts of leg room.
I'd steer clear of a Statesman as well, the fuel bill alone would scare most off but wait till you have to replace a tyre as they are about $500 a corner
