Nice, but it's a little bit lacking in the pedal department!

Ok guys, Ive decided its time for me to buy a new bike.

Specifically I'm looking for a hardtail MTB which should be relatively lightweight.

I'm happy to buy secondhand as I know the ones I like are too expensive when new.

    Its gotta look good too.

Ideally something like a Scott Scale would be appealing (apart from the price!):

Does anyone know of any good, used bike around, looking for size small.
and being in Perth, I'm happy to pay freight too

(my budget is preferably under $1k)

Giant XTC2. Best hardtail I've owned.

Good components, fast frame geometry, light. You'll have a ball on it.

Good example here - and it's in Perth:

    Giant XTC 2 Mountain Bike - 2007 model- Med/19in frame | eBay
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

cheers for that, but I'm a hobbit, so probably too big for me. Ideally looking for around 16" frame

Have a look on gum tree, lots of stuff pops up there. I have a XTC1 fantastic hard tail bike but will be out of your price range. If you are not too confident at looking at 2nd hand bike (ie whats good/bad possible problems etc) more than happy to pop by and help you out.
