Tirerack.com why would buy anywhere else?

Just got my tyres from the tirerack.com. Incredible. I ordered them on 22/12 and they came today! Thats one week from the US. No customs, no duty just delivered to my door by fed ex. And at 60% of the cost I could get them from here including freight! I went for Bridgestone RE050a's 2254018 RY.

Can't wait to get 'em on!

How much exactly were they, and what was the best price you found in Aus?

Fantastic, didn't know importing tyres privately can be so rewarding! Might have to give this a go some day. I was always put off by the idea of it cos of shipping costs. If it's OK, could you post up the shipping cost? I always thought that with something of that size (4 x 18" tyres), it'd cost at least half the price you're getting the tyres for...

It should be said, that it is not always so straight forward and some times you will be asked to pay import duty. To say it can't happen is out of the question, so you always have to bear this in mind.

On to these tyres though, what made you choose them?

I was quoted $540 per corner from Bridgestone- I'm sure I could have got them cheaper some where else but not for............US$208ea plus US$300 shipping!

    Do the math 4 x $540 = $2160

    versus 4 x $231(US.90c/AUS$1) = $924 + $333 shipping = AUS$1257

1257/2160 = 58% Even if they had charged me duty, I would still be better off!

And the stupid thing is, bridgestone told me they didnt know how long it would take to get the tyres in as they were " a liitle different"! WTF! It took 7days from the US to my freakin door!

The reason I got the re050a's...I have run them on my heavily modified 3rb liberty and also on my honda accord euro before that. I found them to be a fantastic handling tyre, quiet and lasted 40,000km (on the lib anyway).

    Getting them fitted tommorrow morning!

    Email or phone them directly.

In my experience with buying wheels a while back they were a bit fiddly in handling the payment, but apart from that no problems. I did get hit with customs/duty, too.

When I asked them if they did international postage they said no. I was asking for wheels and tires though, maybe that was the difference

They pushed me onto aussiecarimports.com who said that they could do it for USD$150 from US to AU
