I'm pretty sure the $1000 value doesn't include shipping? Could be wrong..................
details, examples are here:
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page5549.asp
if the value of the goods, not including delivery charges exceeds $1000, then you pay duty and GST.
Customs value (Cval) = A$1200.00 (converted to A$ on day of arrival)
Customs duty (Duty) @ 5% of Cval = A$60.00 (Payable)
International transport and insurance or postage (T&I) A$150.00
Value of the Taxable Importation (VoTI) (Cval+Duty+T&I) A$1410.00
Goods and Services Tax (GST) @ 10 per cent of the VoTI = A$141.00 (Payable)
Total payable Duty + GST = A$201.00
Sounds like you would just sneak under the radar for 4 x 18" F1's.
I just ordered a set of tyres for my Nissan Murano from tirerack. I was quoted $400 per tyre here and there was only 1 choice of tyre. Because I am selling the car, I wanted something cheaper and got some Kumho tyres for $98 USD each! that is 75% cheaper! Even with shipping, I am getting all 4 tires for less than the cost of 2 tires here.
Yeah can't believe the difference.. I didn't know tirerack sold Khumo, may be even cheaper than option1garage :).
I got a quote of USD$220 for 4x 18" to BNE, so i'd allow between 200-300 USD. Did you email the general sales email? Perhaps try this sales Rep: gus@tirerack.com.
I got quoted $231.21USD to ship 4 x 18" tyres to Perth.
G-rig - how did you pay for yours? I did a TT at the bank because I didnt want to send my CC details over email. This cost me $55 though so maybe next time I will do CC.
Hi m8, haven't bought them yet but last time took ages to verify the credit card but wasn't going to do funds transfer for locknuts as it would have cost more than they were worth!
Perhaps tyres are a different story but you should be sweet once they verify your CC (usually have to confirm your work/home address).
Just with this whole import duties and taxes thing, did any of you guys ask Tirerack to put down a cheaper value on the product than it was, or maybe they did this anyway knowing that countries have high import duties...Just a though.
